Dental colour measurement made easy - fast, accurate and reliable
The patented colour measuring instrument consists of a spectrophotometer controlled by a Linux machine. Zfx™ Shade is user-friendly and compatible with Microsoft Windows. The spectrophotometer is equipped with LED lighting; for each measured wavelength another LED type is used. If the measuring button is pressed, the light source illuminates the entire spectrum of the visible light at short intervals. The colours are guided along a light conductor which divides into two light conductors and can thus bring together the symmetrical light on the measuring object. The image of the measuring object, illuminated by the coloured light, is then reflected onto a special black and white CCD sensor which is located at the end of the optic. This CCD sensor measures the data in the visible area from 400 to 700 nm.
Image recording & data transfer

For each image recording the internal computer analyses more than 2 million reference points and can also control all functionalities of the system. During shade taking the selected image detail is displayed as colour image on the high-resolution LCD. This enables correct positioning and thus the best measuring quality. In addition, the user interface which is operated via touch panel provides additional information about the patient data. There is the possibility to record a message which is then backed by the image.

The spectral images and spectral data can be stored on the device, transferred to the PC via W-LAN or SD memory card, or directly transmitted to the lab via e-mail or on CD-ROM.

The Zfx™ Evolution scanner is the entry level model of the Evolution series and has been designed to cater for the individual needs of the dental technician.
The Zfx™ Evolution is a new, fully automated lab scanner which measurement method is based on the principle of strip light projection. It arrives from the company’s development center in Bolzano, Italy and offers – as with all components of Zfx CAD/CAM systems – open interfaces. Thanks to the highest possible scanning accuracy of less than 9 µm per solid (measurement in accordance with VDI, the European laboratory and field validation test procedures), models digitized by this device provide the perfect basis for the construction of extremely complex geometries such as bars and implant-supported screw-retained bridge frameworks.
The device enables scanning of full-arch as well as articulated models. In addition, bite registrations, preoperative models and wax-ups can be digitized in order to use them as references for construction. The scanner also allows the user to detect detailed markings on the object’s surface, for example, a preparation margin, drawn by hand directly on the physical model. Additionally, a code system has been developed to transfer information about the in-work implant directly from the scanbody to the software as well as enabling automatic recognition of the articulation system.

Highlights
Open system (STL data records)
Maximum precision with direct screw-retained implant constructions (sending of models not necessary. Precision under 9 µm per solid! - Measurement in accordance with VDI, the European laboratory and field validation test procedures.)
Previously unattainable scanning speed!
Digitization of articulated models(Artex®, SAM®, Protar®, Stratos® and more)
Photometric surface detection (e.g. hand marked peperation margin)
Automatic detection of the implant and articulation systems by means of an innovative Zfx™ code system

Digital Plus
A next-generation desktop scanner with many innovative features. The „Zfx Evolution plus“ is the succesful symbiosis of  functionality, precision and aesthetics.
Basic Version: What’s new?
The innovative „open scan technology“ is the basis of the new design. The scanner operates without a door, offering proficiency through the open and compact architecture. The space requirement is small and the day-to-day work-flow is simplified. Like its‘ predicessor, the „Zfx Evolution plus“ utilizes the proven stripe light technology. A total of 128 line pairs are projected with a LED light source on the surface of the object to be captured. The 2-axis system for rotating and swiveling movements, ensures that the twin cameras in the scanner  (CCD sensors) record all surface points reliably. The scanning speed („Quick Scan“) is also improved. Due to an optimization of the  image processing algorithms, the computation time of the scanner has been reduced to 30 percent.
A forward-looking feature is the „Ready for 3D-Printing“ tool. The scanner generates a  standard stl file that is compatible with additive manufacturing. Furthermore, up to tewlve individual dies can be captured and processed  simultaneously  through the „12-in-1 Multi-Die-Scanning“ module that is included in the basic version. Additionally, the validated  accuracy (less than 9 µm) has been enlarged to volume of 140 x 80 mm through sensor adjustment.
Thanks to the substantially enlarged field-of-view and the enhanced scanning area, fewer records per scan are necessary. This so-called „Full Scan“ improves not only the speed, but also the accuracy even with large cases. Time-consuming rescans are virtually eliminated.

Zfx IntraScan

Zfx™ IntraScan is a lightweight handpiece which is connected to a notebook by means of a cable and weighs only 600 grams. The entire scanning technology is incorporated into the handpiece, obviating the need for a complex workstation.

The intraoral scanner is used to digitally measure the condition of the bite and a 3-D model is generated from the results. Both the hard and the soft tissue are modelled. Digital impressions taken with the Zfx IntraScan are used as a basis for the computer-controlled design and manufacture of implant and tooth-supported restorations. It is not necessary to apply scanning powder.

Workflow in practice
An optical impression of the patient‘s mouth is taken with the Zfx intraoral scanner. The individual scans generated are combined in real time. The generated data record is small, enabling data to be transmitted quickly and easily. The result is a virtual, three-dimensional model which can be displayed and checked on the monitor. If this shows that the preparation limit has not been modelled accurately or if there are gaps in the data, then the preparation and scanning can be repeated. It is also possible to interrupt the scan, for example to re-dry a region - the scanning process is simply continued from where it was interrupted. Scanning can also be carried out at a different point by moving the scan field with the mouse.

Data transfer
When the scanning process is complete, the generated 3-D model is made available to the laboratory via the Zfx™ Dental-Net. It is not necessary for Zfx to modify or compress the data record, and the partner laboratory can start the virtual construction immediately. The Zfx™ Dental-Net online platform is also used for communication between practice, laboratory and milling centre.
